As Chaplain of Saint Ann’s Shrine, Father Roger Bourgeois celebrates weekday Masses for the devoted people who attend regularly, and visitors from out of town. Through celebration of the Eucharist and preaching the Word of God, he inspires the faithful to experience the love of God.
Father Roger has served in many parishes over the years: Santa Cruz in Manila, Philippines; Saint Joseph in San Antonio, TX, Saint Charles in Albuquerque, NM; Sacred Heart in Salt Lake City, UT; Saint Francis de Sales in Parma, OH; Saint Paschal Baylon in Highland Heights, OH, and he has served the Province of Saint Ann as a local Superior of its largest community in Cleveland, OH for many years, coordinating the efforts of our active and retired religious. In addition, he served as Vicar Provincial and Provincial Consultor.
In his early years of priesthood, Father Roger was sent to the then missionary territory of the Philippines where the Congregation was just beginning its ministry. Among his responsibilities there was that of Master of Novices, training local Filipino young men for first vows in our religious Congregation dedicated to the Eucharist.
On the occasion of his 50 years as a priest in 2007, Father Bourgeois commented: “A highlight of my 50 years as a priest is the joy of celebrating the Sacraments with God’s people, of making good friends wherever I was assigned, and enjoying the cultural diversities of food, language, traditions, and beauty of each locale.” He continued, “I love my priesthood and thank my Congregation that has given me the opportunity to travel, meet and minister to so many people. All of them continue to enrich my personhood and inspire me to continue serving as a priest.”
Father Roger welcomes visitors to the Shrine where they can find solace and peace as they seek the intercession of Good Saint Ann. In his free time, Fr. Roger enjoys golfing and bowling.
